FOSPAH striving for gender equality, human dignity: Fauzia Viqar


ISLAMABAD, Aug 01 (APP): Chairperson Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH) Fauzia Viqar on Thursday underlined efforts to create a Pakistan, built on the ideals of gender equality and human dignity.

Ms. Fauzia Viqar held an interactive meeting with mediapersons covering the Islamabad High Court at the Federal Ombudsperson Secretariat for Protection against Harassment (FOSPAH), said a press release.

The meeting was also attended by Rehman Shehzad, Registrar FOSPAH and Ms. Meher Jamy, Law Officer FOSPAH.

During the meeting Ms. Viqar elaborated upon the need for an institution like FOSPAH in the country where only 23% of women were in the workplace and therefore required increased protection.

Additionally, Ms. Jamy explained the mandate of FOSPAH, namely, eliminating workplace harassment and securing the property rights of women while Shehzad informed the attendees about the implementation powers of FOSPAH.

The media participants raised many pertinent questions about the workings of FOSPAH such as inquiring about the number of complaints received so far by transgendered persons, the availability of a mobile application to facilitate parties and the level of cooperation between FOSPAH and other women-centric bodies.

The meeting then ended with a commitment by the members of the media to disseminate information about FOSPAH to the people while also reporting upon its notable achievements.
