ISLAMABAD, Oct 21 (APP):National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on Monday initiated the process for appointing the next Chief Justice of Pakistan by asking the Senate Chairman to create a special parliamentary committee under Article 175-A(3)(b) of the Constitution.
Following this request, the National Assembly Secretary has dispatched letters to the leaders of all parliamentary parties.
Speaker Sadiq has specifically asked Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani for the names of senators to join the committee. Meanwhile, the National Assembly Secretary-General has also requested parliamentary leaders to nominate their MNAs for the committee.
This 12 members parliamentary committee will consist of 4 senators and 8 members from the National Assembly, ensuring proportional representation from the parties in both houses.
The National Assembly Speaker has communicated with the Senate Chairman, and the Secretary-General has reached out to leaders of the Muslim League-N, Pakistan Peoples Party, Sunni Tehreek Council, and MQM to submit their nominees for the special committee.
