IHC serves notices in plea seeking banning protest at D-Chowk


ISLAMABAD, Aug 01 (APP):The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday served notices to deputy commissioner ICT in a plea seeking imposing a ban on protest at D-Chowk and Red Zone.
The court also served notices to interior ministry in the same matter.
Chief Justice Aamer Farooq heard the case filed by Federal Welfare Association (FWA).
The petitioner’s lawyer said that business of life in capital is suspended whenever a protest or sit-in conducted at
D-Chowk.
He prayed the court to impose a ban on it.
Advocate general Islamabad said that only few places are closed at the time of protest. Section-144 has been imposed in Islamabad to stop this.
He said that the administration close the surrounding roads if a protest is conducted at press club. DC Islamabad said that no one is allowed to hold a sit-in in Red Zone
The chief justice remarked then why this practice is not being stopped. He said that although the protest is the right of every citizen but entrance in Red Zone is limited.
The court sought comments from respondents and adjourned the case.
